ICA’S HISTORY IN CHILE
The story of the Institute of Cultural Affairs
( ICA), goes way back to 1973 when, after having been a branch of the programs of the Ecumenical
Institute of Illinois ( USA) for a number of years, it starts autonomously as a member of ICA International
( ICAI), which had been founded in 1977 in Brussels. ICAI acts as co-ordinator to 35 member
countries all through North and South America, Africa,
Europe, Asia and the Pacific. ICAI has a consultative status to CEPAL and UNICEF.
ICA started its activities in Chile in 1978,
in a very important agricultural project called “ Sol de Septiembre” ( September Sun ). Their
goal was to motivate poor farmers to believe in themselves and re-enforce their self-esteem by creating
their own projects in order to better their environment and their means. ICA Chile has a specific mission: to create the development of a culture
of participation in Chile by training individuals as facilitators in the Technology of Participation,
through different learning processes.
On December 21, 2004, we finally received our credentials as Institute of Cultural Affairs
Corporation, ICA Chile, as a National ONG,
by decree Number 3935 delivered by the Government of Chile.
WHO ARE WE?
The Institute of Cultural Affairs is a private non-profit international organisation.
Its mission is to promote positive social change within different organisations, communities
and in the personal lives of people all over the world, helping them to find their own solutions
to their own personal problems and to implement them.
